BAFA V BSAFA
Meanwhile the BSAFA and BAFA continue with their on-off relationship.
The Student Association recently posted details concerning their financial position:
BSAFA Finance Report – 27th July 2007

BSAFA has been portrayed as struggling financially this year. This perception is due to a number of statements released by BAFA and BSAFA, which arose from mild financial mismanagement over the last 3 years.

After taking office in April, discussing with Glen Schild and consulting the release of BAFA on the 22nd March 2007, Glen stated the amount due to BAFA was £19,740.51. This amount was for affiliation fees outstanding in 2007 and American footballs purchased from AmerSports. Gary Marshall of BAFA BoD stated:

“The decision was taken to hold the footballs, now owned by BAFA”
(Extracts from the BAFA Board of Directors meetings relating to BSAFA, Page 8)

On the understanding that the footballs are the property of BAFA, a contra of £6,690.51 has been credited to the BSAFA account. This leaves the debts at

Affiliation Fees £19,740.51
186 Balls £6,690.51 -

Total £13,050.00

Over the last 2 months I have been collecting in the unpaid affiliation, registration and accommodation invoices which spread over 2 years.

This summarizes the amounts

Collected £8,269.25
In Post* £1,119.00
Unions acknowledging debt £2,733.13
Payment September £2,215.00
Other £947.50

Total £15,354.88

*I have included this category due to the recent postal strikes and being out of the office for the last week.

There are currently 9 teams with outstanding invoices, of which 3 have partially paid. All affected Universities have been contacted and are co-operating with BSAFA.

I can also now confirm that on receipt of invoice a payment will be sent to BAFA.

In light of recent statements from BAFA (the allegation that BSAFA was financially insolvent) I thought it would be prudent to undergo an insolvency test of the organization to reassure the membership and Unions across the country. This insolvency test was independently run.

BSAFA is solvent with the resulting ratio of 1.61. An organization with a ratio higher than 1.1 is classed as financially healthy.

BSAFA Director of Finance

With the above now being posted does this make BAFA look like they are acting unfairly?

We await BAFA's response.
